Our history: The Worcester Boat Club was founded in 1888 on the storied waters of Lake Quinsigamond, ranked as one of the best rowing venues in North America. The University of Worcester Rowing Club is a young club developing performance rowing 'One of the country's oldest rowing clubs' One of the oldest rowing clubs in England, Sons of the Thames was established in 1886 by professional watermen. We support everyone, from complete novices to top-level athletes, aged eight to eighty, by helping them to train both physically and technically. At one time the City of Worcester could boast of many separate rowing clubs, each one being confined to members engaged in a particular occupation or from a particular walk of life. Indeed Dr Galligan has discovered that, between 1841 and 1905, there were 20 separate rowing clubs in Worcester alone. The Worcester Rowing Club can trace its foundation to 1874 but predating this there were a number of Worcester based clubs including the Ariel rowing Club (1841-1881).
WORCESTER Rowing Club have broken a long-held tradition by electing a female captain for the first time in their 142-year history. The club moved up river from Erith via Lambeth and Putney to its present base in Hammersmith. History Worcester Rowing Club is steeped in history and has been in the City since 1874, although its roots go back much further than this.
