Short of a world war, there was probably no other period in which the social and political atmosphere changed so drastically. Brick Lane exposed: a 1980s view of east London – in pictures. Many of the traditional industries of the East End died out over time but the area re-invented itself once again as a hub of London life in the 1980s. These pictures, taken by Horace Warner 100 years ago in Spitalfields in London’s East End, were used to illustrate the plight of the poorest children in London. When Chris Dorley-Brown stumbled upon thousands of old colour slides belonging to local photographer David Granick, he quickly set to work.
